Safety Net for Trying Times
February 4, 2009
What a day we are living in. With all of this economic upheval here in America and across the world, lots of men, women and children are shaky and wondering what is coming. In times like these, when many are losing their jobs and wondering what to do next, we who believe can faithfully witness to them about salvation and security in Jesus Christ. The government here speaks a lot about a "Safety Net" that should provide basic needs for the poor. When someone comes to faith in Jesus Christ, according to the Bible, their Father in Heaven takes them on as His responsibility. Jesus said to His disciples, "Do not be worried about what you are going to eat, drink or wear" (Matt 6:25) because "your Father in Heaven knows what you need before you ask Him." (Matt 6:8) The catch is this: you must know Christ as Savior and be in fellowship with the Father through Him in order for God to provide. Unless someone is "born again" according to the Scriptures (John 3:3; 1Peter 1:3), heaven has a deaf ear. There is no help for the hopeless outside of the provision that God has made though Jesus. Jesus said "I am the [only] way" that anyone can come to the Father (John 14:6), and it is through the Grace and Mercy of our Heavenly Father that we are able to live day by day without fear - in His peace and security. There is only one safety net that matters. It is that safe haven found in the palm of the Hand of God Almighty. No human being can dwell there unless they come to faith in Christ. It is our privilege to help fearful and spiritually lost men, women and children to stop relying on the institutions of this world for their security by introducing them to Jesus.
